Collaboration

BRMDD is extremely grateful for the physicians and medical groups in Western Carolina for their support and their continued collaboration. Dr. Wendy Coin, MD & Medical Director for The Family Health Centers (FHC) has lead the way helping Brmdd, since the beginning.  She has been a great asset in the initial start up phase to the Cancer Detection Dog Project. She was instrumental in writing protocols essential for sample collection to the formation of the FHC Dog Team. You can read about the FHC Dog Team project on their website.

BRMDD invites other research teams, physicians, medical facilities and teaching Institutions from our community and a far to collaborate. We are currently collecting breath samples from newly diagnosed lung, breast and pancreatic cancer patients, who haven’t began any treatment or had surgery. These samples are needed for training and evaluation of the cancer detection dogs. Longterm, we will work to develop and implement the utilization of CDDs as alternative or secondary diagnostic screening method for certain types of cancers which are difficult to diagnose reliable, into clinical settings. If your clinic would like more information or are interested in collaborating, please contact Terri Boyd, Terri@brmdd.org

BRMDD offers resources to assist other foundations, groups or researcher to replicate clinical studies, collect samples and to help bridge the gap and between MDD trainers and the medical field.

The Family Health Centers has teamed up with Terri Boyd owner of Blue Ridge Medical Detection Dogs (seen with Maya in above picture) in the quest to detect cancer in the early stages of the disease.
